RICO SCHACHERL

Rico is a cartoonist and illustrator living and working in Johannesburg, South Africa. Born in Austria in 1966, he claims he was drawing cartoons ever since he was old enough to hold a pencil. After less-than-successful studies in graphic design and architecture during the late 80s, Rico decided to get a real job as a cartoonist. He met writing partner Stephen Francis while working at a publishing company, and together with Stephen, Rico created the comic strip Madam & Eve, which has been syndicated in South Africa for over eleven years and published in France, Sweden, Denmark, Britain, Australia and Norway. Rico’s media agency now does a wide variety of commercial art and script work for advertising, television and publishing. His first love, however, remains comics, and current projects include the online comics Vern & Dern and An Ordinary Day.
