SIMON POKAGON

Simon Pokagon (1830–1899) was a member of the Potawatomi tribe, and studied at Notre Dame University and Oberlin College, mastering five languages. He was the author of several books and multiple shorter works and was a featured speaker at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago. His poem, The Red Man’s Rebuke, is from the preface for an 1893 publication of the same name.
