Joseph Erb (Cherokee) is an award-winning artist, filmmaker, and digital media specialist. He received his BFA in art from Oklahoma City University, and produced the first animation based on a traditional Cherokee story in the Cherokee language as his MFA thesis at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, Erb returned home to Oklahoma, where he worked on interactive Cherokee language materials for the Cherokee Nation. He has taught children how to make animations in the Cherokee language, and has advised many different Tribal Nations on language technology. He currently works in language technology, building relationships with companies including Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google. Erb has spent most of his professional life working to increase where and how the Cherokee language can be used. These efforts have resulted in Cherokees being able to utilize text messaging, social media and search engines in the Cherokee language.
