Stephen Hickman has been illustrating science fiction and fantasy for over two decades. His paintings have been used as covers for many contemporary writers, including Gordon Dickson, Harlan Ellison, Robert Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Larry Niven, and Steve Stirling. Hickman has illustrated approximately 350 covers for Ace, Baen, Ballantine, Bantam, Berkeley, Dell, Del Rey, Doubleday, Phage Press, Tor, and Warren Publications. In 1994 he was awarded a Hugo Award for the U.S. Postal Service’s Space Fantasy Commemorative Booklet of stamps. Stephen illustrated the cover of Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu from Baen Books and in 1966 he created a Cthulhu statuette based on the cover, and later a bust of the author. Both are produced and distributed by Bowen Designs, Stephen’s work appears in the first edition of Graphic Classics: H.P. Lovecraft.
