The son of a children’s book writer/illustrator team, Paul Carrick studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he says it took him four full years to win the respect of some teachers for his fantasy art, which they looked down on as “white trash van art.” But, says Paul, “Isn’t the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel a form of fantasy art?” Since graduating in 1994, he has illustrated children's books and has concentrated on illustrating role-playing games for all the major publishers in the field, including Wizards of the Coast, Chaosium, and Five Rings Publishing. His portrait of H.P. Lovecraft appeared in the first edition of Graphic Classics: H.P. Lovecraft. Visit www.nightserpent.com for more samples of Paul’s work.
