ARTHUR C. PARKER (GAWASO WANNEH)
Anthropologist Arthur Caswell Parker (1881-1955) was raised on the Cattarougus Indian Reservation in New York. His father was Seneca Iroquois and his mother was Scottish-English. Parker was an anthropologist, highly respected both by academics and the Iroquois, and an influential member of the Society of American Indians. He wrote numerous works on Iroquois culture, linguistics, folklore, archeology and ethnology. In 1913 he published his transcription of The Code of Handsome Lake, the Seneca Prophet.
